If you have been following along with our mens league troubles (hi, mom) you know that we were thinking of every gimmick in the book to add a spark to our season. This week, Scotty took his ipod and some speakers on the bench. The music helped lighten our spirits and we stopped the tailspin for a few days. Not to use the tired hockey cliche but the music helped us to not squeeze our sticks too tight.
Check out Kristi's take on mens league in Denver. She thinks everything her coach says has a sexual meaning.
The Director's Cut - Artem
a much needed victory for the ess express this past wednesday. Lesson learned: don't drink a double espresso an hr before an athletic competition - my calf cramped up for 10 min - that sucked buut... High energy and high glove was my path to success, thank you Ess for your
pass on our 2 on 1.
pass on our 2 on 1.
Scoring 5-hole - Bressler
Another week, another...win. Well, not "another" win, but a win to break our thousand game losing streak. And this wasn't an easy skate either. We had to overcome obstacles, like Artem cramping up. But we did have one special thing on our side. Music. Instead of individual ipods, Scotty and Nemmy made a men's league mix and we kept the speakers on the bench. It was calming and inspiring all at once. Never again will I play men's league without a sweet soundtrack in the background.
From Pooh Corner - Scotty
Well we won his week so I said, that's good...one less thing to worry about. Artem received a pass, looked up at an open area of the net (great sauce from Essquire) and buried it. Unbelievable goal. Tristan buried a couple of breakaways. Lock down defense by me, Nemmy and Evan. Some serious music on the bench that made it like a fun congregation as opposed to a painful chore that it has become. All good things so limited salt this week. I think everyone needed it. There are two things that still get me about our men's league team.
(1) People say they are in for an 11:30 game which sucks, I realize this, but they say that they are in at 3 in the afternoon and than send a text at 10:30 that they are out and we count on some of these people to be there so we have enough to play at that time of night.
(2) Why do you sign up to play if you never play? It's one night a week. I know Wednesday nights that I play hockey. What do you do on a Wednesday night that you can't come, even 75% of the time.
2 Minutes for Sucking - Nemmy
The team was a little unsure of the music at first. Tristan (our leading scorer) turned the stereo down on the bench at at the open during a 50 Cent track. By the time ACDC blended into Katy Perry we were high octane and we had the stereo full blast in time for some Phil Collins. The music relaxed everyone and the other team's keeper was basically trying his hardest to lose. Artem was on the bench screaming and yelling because his calf cramped up. It sounded like he was in labor and one of the refs asked me if he was OK. Next week I think we'll stick with the music and try to get a win streak going. If the Islanders can do it so can we.
